Welcome to the 2012-2013 School Year!

Wow!  We had a great turnout for Meet the Teacher Night tonight!  I was so excited to meet all of my new students, and now I am even more excited to start the school year!  I have a great bunch of Kindergarten kiddos and know that we will have such a fun time learning and exploring this year!

If you are a parent reading this, please fill out all of the paperwork from the packets this weekend and have your child bring them to school on Monday.  Also, don't forget to decorate your scrapbook pages.  I can't wait to learn more about your sweet children!

Please check back regularly for new postings.  I will try very hard to update weekly with all of the happenings going on in the room!

101 Days! Time Flies When You're Having Fun!

I think our penguin unit has been the most fun yet!  We created a nonfiction book about penguins, and the students wrote some great facts about penguins in their own books!  Here are some cute glyphs that they made.
Herschel, Kaylie, and Kalli showing off their art!
Here are 2 of the most precious painted snowmen!  The kids chose what they wanted their snowmen to do at night.  Herschel's is a baseball player and Jacqueline's snowman jumps rope!
We created self-portraits that we labeled with the five senses.  Then, we wrote which is our favorite!  I love Brayden's and Kevin's!
Yesterday was the 100th day, and we partied all day!  The balloon pop was by far the favorite, and I am so thankful for my team teachers who recommended we do this!  Each of the 100 balloons had a number inside, and by the end of the day we had made our very own 100's chart out of the balloon numbers!  We also made patterned fruit loop necklaces, crazy hats with 10 polka dots on 10 strips, masks using the number 100, and trail mix with 100 ingredients.
We are an awesome bunch of happy campers!

January Birthday Fun!

January has been a month full of birthdays in my classroom!  Last week we celebrated Brayden's birthday on January 10th, and Jacob R.'s birthday on January 13th (although his real birthday was the 14th).

I hope both of you boys had an amazing sixth birthday!

We have been busy doing lots of fun snowman activities and centers!  I failed to get pictures of our cute last name snowmen and our painted snowmen!  I WILL get them tomorrow!
Learning about penguins has been so much fun this week!  I will be posting all about our new penguin knowledge this weekend as well!

Happy New Year!

We are off to a wonderful start in 2012!  I was so excited to see all of my kiddos, and hear all of their great stories about the break!  I have to admit, they are doing a better job of remembering that we are in 2012 than I am!
We made these cute New Year's Eve kids and wrote our New Years resolutions.  It took a lot of brainstorming, but we all made some awesome resolutions.  Some were: to help my daddy work cows, to help my family clean, and to pick up my clothes.
Kaylyn, Xitlali, and Samuel
The kids did a wonderful job of getting back into the routine, and having fun with math workstations and literacy centers.  Here are Jacob R. and Kevin having fun doing some mitten addition!
My'Yame celebrated her birthday with us on Friday, although her real birthday was Saturday!  I hope you had a fun "real" birthday party too, My'Yame!
We will continue our winter unit this week.  We will be reading funny snowmen stories, creating snowmen, and writing all about them!

We had lots of fun and were oh so busy during the month of December.  Enjoy pictures of some of our favorite days!

I hope everyone has a safe and blessed holiday season!  I look forward to seeing the kiddos on January 3rd and hearing all about their winter break!

Thanksgiving Fun!

I am beyond thankful for being blessed with such a fabulous bunch of kindergarten students this year!
When I asked the kids what they are thankful for here are a few answers that I received: My mom and dad, my grandma, God, my brothers and sisters, food, school, and the list goes on!
We had a blast learning all about fall, turkeys, and Thanksgiving!  We were so busy that I didn't get many pictures of all the fun activities, but I did capture the class favorites!
Our turkeys that are trying to be saved from being eaten at Thanksgiving lunch.  Each kid came up with something for the turkey to encourage you to eat more of.  "Eat more cookies!" "Eat more potatoes!" "Eat more chicken!"
Happy Birthday Jacqueline!  I hope you had a fantastic birthday!

The day we wore our turkey hats that we made to lunch!
Working hard to create their model Mayflower boats.  Will they float?

Yes!  We were all able to make our boats float!
What an awesome bunch of indians!
I hope all of you enjoyed the Thanksgiving break and spent plenty of time with the ones you love most!  Mine included family time, Aggie football, and lots of shopping!
My favorite time of the year is here!  I can't wait for the kids to come in the morning and see our Christmas tree all ready for some handmade ornaments!

Apple Activities

Hooray!  Testing is FINALLY over and Report Cards were sent home on Thursday! I am so pleased with the progress that all of my Happy Campers have made!  You should be very proud of your child!
In the midst of testing, we did some fun apple activities!  Here is LeAnna posing with the life cycle poem art activity that we made about apples.  It says "Eat an apple, Save the core.  Plant some seeds and grow some more!"
My'Yame, Herschel, and Kalli showing off their fun apple glyphs that they made based on questions I asked about apples.
We also celebrated Devynn's birthday!  I hope you had an amazing 6th birthday, Devynn!
Check back soon for scarecrow and turkey fun!
